Fade stool by Catherine Aitken ? Time to Design 2012 winner

Scottish designer Catherine Aitken is the winner of Time to Design 2012. It is an international design award focusing on young design talents in the beginning of their career. The winner is granted with a three months residency at the Danish Art Workshops, ? 6700 donated by the Danish Ass. of Wood and Furniture Industries, a two week exhibition at the Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store, and career coaching by the company OeO. David Carlson, founder and editor-in-chief of David Report, was in the jury. Since August Catherine Aitken has been working at the Danish Art Workshops. During the time she has completed the design of a series of seating. For months now the textile workshop in the Danish Art Workshops has been filled with lengths of cotton cord from Japan, and gradient drawings that fade from light to dark. Working from a material-based foundation, the 29 year old designer has explored techniques of binding and sewing. The result: a colorful series of stools and a bench combining wood, metal and cotton cord.
