Ariz. retail sales post anemic growth

Retail sales showed anemic growth in Arizona for September, coming in at $3.9 billion, a 2.6 percent increase over September 2011, the state Department of Revenue reported. Despite limited year-over-year growth, some areas were markedly stronger than a year before. Mirroring a national trend, auto sales, for example, were up 15 percent compared with the prior year, with sales totaling $530 million. Clothing also was up by about 28 percent year over year, with sales of about $259 million.
