Merger speculation involving US Airways and American Airlines got a lift Friday with ratification of a key labor pact and reports that Tempe-based US Airways has made a formal bid for American's corporate parent.
Multiple news reports surfaced Friday that US Airways, which has been pursuing the nation's third-largest carrier for the past year, had made a formal offer. The Wall Street Journal said the bid was made in mid-November.
