If it's better to give than to receive, then the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust is on the right path.
This week, the trust, a Phoenix private foundation, is marking a milestone with a grant to the Arizona Opera that put it over $300 million in combined donations since it was established after the death of its namesake, Virginia G. Piper. She was the former wife of Motorola founder Paul Galvin and, later, of Kenneth Piper, another top Motorola executive.
