Spike Lee Slams Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained as "Disrespectful"

December 24, 2012

Do not count Spike Lee as one of the millions of movie goers who will be seeing Django Unchained this holiday season.

Or any season, for that matter.

The famous director went off on the film - which stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave who teams up with a bounty hunter to rescue his wife from an evil plantation owner - and Quentin Tarantino in a recent interview with Vibe.

"I'm not gonna see it," Lee told the magazine. "All I'm going to say is that it's disrespectful to my ancestors."

Lee then expounded via Twitter:

"American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves.Stolen From Africa.I Will Honor Them."

The action movie has made a few headlines for its excessive use of the N-word, something Lee also took Tarantino to task for in 1997 after the release of Jackie Brown. Said Lee at the time:

"Let the record state that I never said that he cannot use that word - I?ve used that word in many of my films - but I think something is wrong with him."
