Food News Round-Up: Cocoa Loco

Deep in Your Cups: Researchers in Spain have determined that the color of the cup you serve your hot chocolate in affects how good you think it tastes. Cocoa tastes better in blue or cream-colored mugs, while it seems to taste worse in white or red ones. Same goes for coffee--"stronger" in brown or red packaging, "softer" in blue or yellow--and strawberry mousse--more intense and flavorful on white plates than on black. Pink containers make drinks seem sweeter, blue makes drinks more thirst-quenching, and yellow makes lemonade seem more lemon-y. But what about mugs with little Claymation Swiss gals on them? Anyone here ever experiment with plating colors? Any concrete results? Gone to the Dogs: Do you do everything with your favorite furry friend? Now you can go boozing with him too. Introducing Dawg Grog, the beer for canines. (It's not alcoholic.) Repeat Customer: And the Idiot Diner of the Year nominees are off to an early start for 2013 in Pontiac, Mich., where a 40-year-old guy who allegedly robbed a McDonald's returned to the same restaurant as a drive-through customer a couple months later. The workers recognized him and called the cops. Joysticks and Fish Sticks: Namco, the company that brought the world Pac-Man and Space Invaders, is planning an upscale arcade-themed restaurant, possibly in the Chicago area. It's intended as the first in a chain of Namco gaming eateries. From my own personal experiences, and visits to Dave & Buster's, though, my inclination is to say that food and videogames don't mix. Who's going to wipe the Bernaise off the joysticks?
