Despite being a hopeless news junkie, I try to tune out anything about heritage hires/celebrity spawn, and not least because it is not news. (I will admit to making the occasional exception for a daughter/son who has chosen to follow in her/his dad's clogs, because cooking is a noble profession.) So in my voracious reading I was happy to come across news of what Michael J. Fox's son is doing these days, a tidbit tucked away in a breathless "Celebrity Heirs as Awards-Show Royalty" piece in the WSJ this a.m. (Sorry: No link, cuz Rupert Murdoch wants you to pony up for his orts.) Twenty-three-year-old Sam Fox is director of business development and strategy at Farmers Web. And that turns out to be an online platform for small growers on the East Coast to get their tatsoi* and hanger steak to restaurants and other large-scale buyers. As much of a devotee of farmers' markets as I am, I also understand that the whole system happens to be a rather cumbersome way to connect growers and eaters. So I'm happy to see a kid who could just be Foxing in in Hollywood is doing some major good. But as the hidden story points out: He does happen to be the nephew of Michael Pollan. *This photo is just a place-holder. That awesome green will be coming back.
