The New Year brings new hope for designer John Galliano, in the form of Oscar de la Renta. As you may recall, Galliano was fired from his top spot at Dior after a YouTube video captured a racist and anti-Semitic rant while sitting at a cafe in Paris. He was not only dismissed by Dior by also fined by the French Government.
The fashion industry loves a good comeback story but it will be interesting to see how they embrace the news that Oscar de la Renta is giving Galliano a second chance.
"In a stunning development, de la Renta has invited the disgraced Galliano to spend some time with him in his New York design studio over the next three weeks," according to WWD.
Galliano hasn't been totally absent from fashion since his official departure from Dior. He designed Kate Moss' wedding dress last year. It was clearly an endorsement from Kate but nothing to the scale of Oscar's bold move today.
“John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent,' de la Renta said. “He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.'
No matter how talented the designer, do you agree with Oscar de la Renta's decision to support Galliano in a fashion comeback? Or, is it just too soon?
