Rest in piece James Irvine

British designer James Irvine died yesterday at the age of 54. James graduated from RCA in London 1984 and moved to Milan where he have been working since. He worked with Michele de Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass in the late eighties, and later became a partner to Sottsass Associati Milan. He got an Honorary Doctorate in design from Kingston University in 2007. James has been working with brands like Artemide, Cappellini, B&B Italia, Mercedes Benz and SCP. I met James for the first time in the late eighties and I'm happy to have had the pleasure to know him ever since. On the more social side probably not that many people know that James is “responsible' for the circus around Bar Basso in Milan during the design week. In the early ninties owner Maurizio Stochetto allowed James, who was living nearby, to throw some smaller cocktail parties at the cocktail bar. He was also allowed to stay after closing time with his small group of friends. The group grew over the years ending up to what Bar Basso has turned into today one week in April. Rest in piece James.
