The U.S. national soccer team somehow hung on for a scoreless draw in Mexico City late Tuesday night, a welcome result the Americans earned only with the aid of a cooperative Guatemalan referee. The tie gave the U.S. three points from three World Cup qualifiers in the final Hexagonal round ? two of those games staged at difficult road venues ? and placed them third in the standings behind Panama and Costa Rica.
