Milan Design Week 2013 ? part one

We left Milan Design Week 2013 with different impressions. Some things were very disappointing. Superstudio seems to be totally out of artist direction and has been in a negative trend for many years (so far from the first years when Giulio Cappellini hand-picked the different brands). Also the Zona Tortona area in general was weak this year. Moooi was standing out, but mostly because of the blow-up size of the show. On the other hand we found some a couple of interesting shows and places at other part of the town; Lexus design award,Nomadisimi show, Stephen Burks reinterpretation of Calligaris chairs, Little Black Jacket with photography by Karl Lagerfelt and new showrooms for Missoniand Santoni by Patricia Urquiola. Rossana Orlandi's space is always a nice experience (but always with a strange selection of exhibiting brands). The little French porcelain company Astier de Villatte was a beauty though. Ventura Lambrate on the other hand presented an overload of prototypes (imagine if all this creativity could be used for more important issues than just more chairs and tables?).
