You know, the 1,000-year-old epic poem where Geat hero Beowulf slays Grendel the monster, Grendel?s mother and a dragon before his dramatic end?

Anyone? No?

OK, well, what if I told you the Old English tale has been gussied up with slapstick wackiness, avant-garde staging­ and original music that ranges from punk rock and klezmer to torch songs and Broadway parody?

I?m not sweetening the deal, am I?
