Krystle Campbell Funeral: "Human Shield" of Union Members to Block Westboro Baptist Church

April 22, 2013

Boston bombing victim Krystle Campbell, one of the three people who died in the blast, will have her funeral protected by a "human shield" today if necessary.

The Teamsters union said it will step in if protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church show up and protest her memorial service, as they have stated.

On Sunday, Sean O?Brien, head of Teamsters Local 25, asked his fellow union members to participate in protecting mourners at this morning's ceremony.

Local 25 represents 11,000 men and women from the Boston area. O'Brien told the Boston Globe that he expected about 350 people to show up.

"It's the right thing to do," he said of Krystle Campbell's funeral. "The family deserves a peaceful grieving process that's free from any coward-led group."

On Sunday, approximately 11,000 mourners attended Campbell's wake.

The vehemently anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church often protests funerals of public figures and members of the military, as well as other high-profile events.

Westboro already said Massachusetts "invited this special wrath from God Almighty when it was the FIRST STATE to pass same-sex marriage."

The controversial group announced plans over the weekend to picket Campbell's funeral, but it remains to be seen if they will actually show up.

If they do, you can bet Anonymous will retaliate - human shield or not.
