Where to Eat in the Blue Ridge Highlands and Gatlinburg?

July 4, 2013

Calling all cars! My husband, daughter, and I are road tripping down to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, via the Blue Ridge Parkway, and would love to hear your thoughts on where to get good grub and drink. We are happy to be staying in the food-loving Staunton, Virginia, area one night, and may try to check out Zynodoa. If we can't get a table there, where should we go? We also hope to spend some time around Floyd or Galax on our way back, with the goal of catching some music at the Rex or the Floyd Country Store. Any ideas on goodies to be had in that part of the state? Finally, we'll be getting some R&R in a cabin in the Gatlinburg area. While a meal at nearby Blackberry Farm would be pretty dreamy, I'm afraid that's not in the cards this time. We're probably mostly cooking in our lil' cabin, packing picnics, and eating at pancake houses, but would be more than willing to drive an hour for some good--or just fun!--food cooked by other humans. So, any tips? Extra points if you can point me in the direction of some fine biscuits. Pictured: Sweet Potato Biscuits with Ham, Mustard, and Honey
