As much as we like shiny new hotels and seeking out the latest places to lay our heads when we're traveling, there is something about hotels that have seen the years come and go, withstood trends rushing in and passing just as quickly, and over time been woven into the very fabric of a city. That's why we sought out Mandarin Oriental Bangkok recently, one of the city's oldest luxe hotels, having had its place on the banks of the Chao Phraya River since 1876 that's more than a hundred ... Either Cameron Diaz has been reading HotelChatter, or she's got friends who keep a close eye on the NYC hotel scene. The Jade Hotel is still brand new (it officially opened just over two months ago) but that didn't stop the long-legged beauty from stopping by this past weekend. The NY Post ... Quick Read |

Summer is almost upon us, and along with all the regular seasonal delights (rooftop cocktails, long weekends in Cape Cod, ice creeeaaam), one thing we hate, hate, hate about summer in the city is the exorbitant hotel rates. We've seen numbers climbing to $600, $650, and even $700/night for a standard room, and we feel someone needs to take a stand against such preposterousness. So that someone may as well be us. At a glance, we found several hotels overstepping the line with $700+ rates on a ... Quick Read |

It's a truth universally acknowledged that luxury hotel guests are extremely picky about their bath toiletries. After all, no one wants to pay top dollar for a hotel room only to find a mall-store brand of shampoo and conditioner waiting for them in the shower. We ourselves are especially partial to Kiehl's, Red Flower, Bulgari or Asprey when we're paying over $400 a night.Fortunately, guests at the No. 11 Cadogan Gardens, a former private members club turned boutique hotel, won't have to ... Wow, we were quite impressed with the responses from our most recent, Guess The Hotel. Not only because we had a few contenders in the game, but we also had a winner! The hotel that uses their key cards as framed art in the lobby is Le Meridien Chiang Mai, Thailand. Since we headed to the Northern Thai city for Songkran, the country's new year celebrations, the unique display caught our eyes while heading back to our room to change out of t ... Quick Read |

Say goodbye to the Metropolitan Resort on International Drive in Orlando. This fall, it will become the world's largest Econo Lodge with a "whopping" 297 rooms. A small part of us chuckles that the world's largest Econo Lodge will humbly boast under 300 rooms, but we suppose it's a nice step for the typically small motel chain as far as novelty goes. Perhaps more important than the size of the property is the extra perks that are not normally seen at Econo Lodges such as an on-site ... Quick Read |

Well, looky here! A new boutique hotel has opened on the sly in Boston. The Chandler Studios, a block away from its sister hotel, The Chandler Inn Hotel in South Boston, is comprised of just 11 studios and a one-bedroom suite, all decorated in a mod fashion (white beds, red accent furniture) with a industrial undertones (the hotel is located in a 100-year-old brownstone.) But what the hotel lacks in size, it makes up for with some serious technology and necessary amenities like a virtual ... Quick Read |

Could there soon be one less hotel in Miami, a town that's been riding a recent hotel boom? Possibly. We got a tip last week from one of our trusted South Beach spies saying that the Wyndham-operated Shelborne South Beach hotel would be closing and instead would reopen as a condo building. (Already the hotel is partially made up of condo units which are typically rented out to visiting guests.) Sure enough, we headed to the hotel's website and found this note: The Shelborne will have a limited ... Quick Read |
