The Alfond Inn isn't your typical boutique hotel. Now open in Winter Park, Florida, The Alfond Inn is a luxury property with philanthropic roots. It's owned by Rollins College, a private coeducational liberal arts college in Winter Park, funded by a $12.5-million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation. Any net income from the hotel will fund The Alfond Scholars program, which provides scholarships and financial aid for students. The luxury fashion world is notorious for being tied to charities, non-profit organizations, and the overall mission to help those in need. Luxury designer Michael Kors is doing his part by launching an exclusive long-term partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, which aims to help solve the international hunger crisis. Kors' involvement will produce two new unisex watches— a $295 smaller model and a $325 larger version— that will allow for 100 children to be fed through WFP for each watch that is sold.
