Spend your Valentine’s Day doing something a little less cliché than dinner and champagne by candlelight. Beginning this February 14th, The Venetian will host the “50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic” for your viewing pleasure. The exhibition, held at the 6,800 square-foot Imagine Exhibitions Gallery, will offer visitors a peek into the background of the iconic photos that National Geographic has been publishing for 125 years.
Steve McCurry’s haunting “Afghan Girl" (above), Nick Nichols’ captivating shot of Jane Goodall with a Chimpanzee, and 48 others will be on display during the event. Some of the images are accompanied by the “near frames,” or the pictures taken by the photographer around the same time as the featured image, giving visitors a unique sense of context for those celebrated frozen moments. In addition to being provided with the history and context surrounding the pictures themselves, visitors will be educated on the photographers behind the famous images, further adding to their understanding of the photos.
