Cruise and Cycle Through Saxony

Today you begin your exciting nine-day tour through Saxony by cruise and bicycle. Upon
your arrivalto Hamburg, you will check into the magnificent Louis C. Jacob Hotel. This

fabulous dinner and take in a spectacular view of the Elbe River at Das Tafelhaus.
This morning begins with a cycling tour along the Elbe River, and through beautiful fruit
plantations that dot the countryside. Make your way to East for a bite to eat, a place
where European and Asian cuisine fuse together for a delectable meal. Tables situated
among rustic brick walls, remind every moment of the amazing history in Saxony. Be
sure to visit Bergstedter Kirche while you are still in Hamburg. Known for its
unparalleled ambiance Bergstedter Kirche receives more than a thousand wedding
requests every year, making it one of the most popular churches in Germany. As evening
falls return to the MV Dresden and enjoy a scrumptious dinner aboard the boat.
Days 3 - 4
Cycling to the medieval town of Tangermunde is on your agenda today, where you will
have the opportunity to visit the Jerichow Monastery, and appreciate its grand German
architecture. Erected in 1144, this monastery has had significant impact on its
surrounding public life, making it a key historical structure in this area of Germany.
Tomorrow you will enjoy lakes, canals and forests as you cycle through the grandiose
Gardens of Worlitz. Visiting the cathedral of Magdeburg is also a must do as it is
extremely rich in a variety of art from modern to antique, and built in 937, its the oldest
cathedral in Germany. Starkly contrasting your visit to the cathedral, ultra-modern
restaurant Flair, is the place to go for lunch.
Wittenburg and Torgau are the cities you will be discovering today, along with
Wittenburg Castle, where Martin Luther posted his 95 theses in 1517. Spend some time
strolling the streets of beautiful Wittenburg, and taking in all of the sights. If you get
hungry, Gastho "Am Mailandsberg" is a comfortable and cozy setting to enjoy a
traditional meal. In Torgau, be sure to stop by the historic city center, and no trip would
be complete without a visit to the brewery museum. If you have time Hartenfels Castle is
truly a sight to behold before heading back to the MV Dresden for dinner and relaxation.
Today, in Meissen, tour the Karlstejn castle. Originally built in 1348, the castle is filled
with furnishings ranging from the 14th to 19th centuries. Czech King and Roman Emperor
Charles IV entrusted the walls to safeguard royal treasures. For lunch, settle in to Café
Schonitz for more traditional fare, and sample any of the 200 local wines they offer.
Spend tonight in the city and check into the beautiful Mercure Grand Hotel. Pay a visit to
the Albrechtsburg Castle, where you will learn how porcelain is manufactured. After
working up your appetite once more indulge in fine meal at zenSuR restaurant. Saunter
through the streets of this enchanting town, and gain a true understanding of its spirit.
Retire to your hotel, and meet back up with your group in the morning.
Days 7 - 8
Take a bike ride through the scenic Elbe Valley, and make your way to Pillnitz Palace &
Garden. Pillintz has an East Asian styling making it quite unique; it is the largest palace
of its kind in all of Europe. Next, cycle to the wine village of Copitz as you survey the
landscape, before hopping aboard a ferry that will take you to the historic town of Pirna.
After so much cycling, you are bound to need carbs, and Rossini restaurant offers
wonderful Italian fare in a chic atmosphere. Head over to Zwinger museum after to
peruse magnificent baroque art, and enjoy the serene courtyard. The following day, rock
formations of the Bastion region are on your to do list, along with taking in the majestic
countryside as you cycle towards your destination. Peddle all the way to the Czech
Republic border, where you will board the MV Dresden on last time.
Enjoy the town of Dresden for your last day before heading of to the airport. If you are
catching a red eye, top off your vacation and spend your evening feasting at Michelin-starred
Caroussel where you can order from a menu of traditional and continental dishes
that will make your mouth water. Follow up your delicious meal with a visit to Semper
Opera House to take in a show you will never forget.
