Over a million people attend the huge Arizona State Fair at the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix. Uniquely western in style, it is a little piece of American history out in the desert.
Building on tradition and adding a pinch of innovation, this year the event offers everything from the All Indian Rodeo and the US Armwrestling Championships to the ultimate in redneck entertainment...a demolition derby, all free with the admission.
The fair was first held over 100 years ago, predating even the acceptance of Arizona as a state into the newly formed USA. It began as a local affair showcasing simple horse, pony and mule races along with exhibits including agriculture, home economics and cattle. |
