Annual Philanthropy Forum: The Legacy of Self-Made Women

Event Time: 5pm to 7:30pm
Los Angeles, CA
Official Website >

Please join us for an inspirational evening as we celebrate the legacy of self-made women and how they turned their vision of philanthropic giving into a reality. Many thanks to Jocelyn Tetel, Vice President of Advancement for Skirball Cultural Center, for producing and hosting this event.

Inspired by the bestselling book Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, this groundbreaking exhibition addresses the worldwide oppression of women and girls as the human rights cause of our time, and boldly asserts that change is possible... and it can happen quickly, with your help.

Stories of women from around the globe who have changed their lives through education, economics, and self-determination are told through photographs, many of them taken by Kristof himself and never before exhibited, compelling graphics and visual art, immersive sound installations, and interactive gallery experiences, including direct opportunities for advocacy and involvement by visitors to the exhibition. Confronting the malign persistence of sex trafficking, gender-based violence, and maternal mortality, Women Hold Up Half the Sky relays injustices faced by women and girls while sharing tales of perseverance, courage, and hope. In celebrating the individual's role in being part of workable solutions, Women Hold Up Half the Sky is an uplifting call to action.
