The National Marathon is a Washington, DC race produced by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance to raise funds for local youth organizations that use sports to build character, encourage physical fitness and enhance education. The National Marathon is certified as official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The 26.2 mile race begins at RFK Stadium and provides runners and spectators with views of more than monuments and the National Mall. It highlights the best of Washington, DC's neighborhoods, featuring six of the city's eight wards, including portions run through the heart of Adams Morgan, dynamic Kalorama, and beautiful Poplar Point.
There are a number of events scheduled in conjunction with the National Marathon, including the National Health & Fitness Expo and the National Pasta Dinner, held the day before the race, as well as seven Community Spirit Festivals spread throughout the course, and the Safeway Finish Line Festival to be held on race day. |
