Back in 1971, the island nation of Bahrain ceased to be a
British protectorate and was declared an independent emirate. This
independence is celebrated each year on National Day with festive
events including parades, marches, speeches and fireworks
throughout the island. An annual statement is also presented on
National Day, by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to honour the state
of the emirate.
