Firestone Country Club: Stay & Play

Posted: Aug. 14th, 2007  |  By JustLuxe Team

Luxury Golf Courses: Golfers who love the game want to play the same championship-level golf courses as the professionals. Being on the same fairways and greens as the legends of the game give players a new found perspective. The Firestone Country Club, which recently hosted the Bridgestone Invitational, is one of the most highly regarded golf complexes of the world with its North, South, and West courses. The South Course is the only place to host the PGA Championship thrice. Additionally, it is the only location where three nationally televised tournaments occurred in one year.

Harvey Firestone opened the club in 1929 for employees of his company. The South Course, designed by Bert Way, hosted its first tournament, the Rubber City Open, in 1954. The first of three PGA Championship took place in 1960. It was during that competition when Arnold Palmer referred to the 625-yard, par-5 16th hole as the Monster. Ultimately, the entire South Course received the daunting nickname due to its challenging, rigorous layout. A firm owned by Jack Nicklaus redesigned the South Course in 1985.

The Robert Trent-designed North Course opened in 1969. It hosted the 1976 American Golf Classic and 1994 NEC World Series of Golf. Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva designed the West Course in 1989. Twelve years later Tom Fazio redesigned it.

Stay & Play

For those seeking to stay and play on the hallowed grounds of Firestone, there are dormitory-style rooms built around the men's locker room, and 15 villas positioned around both the South and North courses. All villas are set up with four sleeping rooms; there is one extra-large villa that sleeps five. Each has a deck or a balcony, a full kitchen, a dining area, and plush furnishings. Internet access, digital cable, and free premium channels also are provided. Ten of the villas also have pool tables. Transportation from and back to the airport is available to guests.

The Firestone Country Club hosts private affairs for both business and social events. Golf outings, personal tourneys, corporate meetings and dinners, weddings, seminars, casino parties, and various fetes are easily accommodated with the assistance of a full-service staff.

ClubCorp owns and operates the Firestone Country Club as well as various premium clubs and resorts around the world.
