Luxury Golf Resorts: The Sea Pines Resort of Hilton Head, Southern
Carolina, offers three championship golf courses, a
rolled-out scroll of activities and events off the
links, award-winning accommodations, and spectacular
ocean views too! Pushing a family's vacation plans in
this direction may turn out to be a very soft sell,
because there is something for everyone here.
The Harbour Town Golf Links recently hosted the PGA's
Verizon Heritage. The course, measuring nearly 7,000
yards, draws favorable comparisons to legendry
Scottish courses of similar distances. Be aware that
this course is a sticker, and it is not very forgiving
to golfers whose attention flickers. However, its
beauty is mesmerizing. The Ocean course, which was
rebuilt in 1995 by Mark McCumber, is the first golf
course on Hilton Head Island. The Ocean and Sea Marsh
courses both are certified Audubon Cooperative
Sanctuary courses. So, despite both courses being for
the birds, these courses are for golfers seeking to be
challenged too. The Sea Marsh course was designed in
1967 by George Cobb and later revitalized 1990 by
Clyde Johnston. Pete Dye, with Jack Nicklaus serving
as a consultant, designed the Harbour Town Golf Links.
The supremely sumptuous luxury resort has the Inn at
Harbour Town, which has 500 Four Diamond rooms and
features 85 premier houses and villas on the premises.
Kayaking, boat chartering, cruises, parasailing and
waterskiing are some of the easily accessible
activities of the area. Go sports fishing is available
on the America's Cup Stars & Stripes.
There are plenty of shopping hotspots too. Vacations,
big social events, business conferences, big and
small, all can be accommodated with the ever-present
hospitality of the South at the Sea Pines Resort. A
trove of valuable info is conveyed on the resort's
website.
