Charlotte Observer Sadly, the oldest music store in Charlotte closed its doors early last week. Just like other book, video and music stores, it was no competition to online shopping. The Brodt Music store had thousands of customers of all backgrounds but, unfortunately, that just wasn’t enough to save the business.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The oldest music store in Charlotte, Brodt Music, closed its doors for the last time Tuesday evening, after nearly 80 years in business. The 13,000-square-foot Brodt building on Commonwealth Avenue was home to pieces of sheet music by the hundreds of thousands and countless customers of all backgrounds. But like the video stores, bookstores and other music stores before it, Brodt (pronounced “Brought”) saw the ease of online shopping squash in-store sales.
