Heading to Atlanta anytime soon? If you follow NCAA basketball, chances are you're at least thinking about it. Well, if you're looking to make your way down to Georgia for whatever reason, the college basketball championship is causing hotel rates to skyrocket in Atlanta right now, so if you have other plans in the city, make them for another time.
Atlanta hotels will be charging big bucks for rooms during the NCAA Menís Final Four tournament this weekend, in some cases at least 200 percent more than the week after a championship team is crowned.
Rooms at the top dozen hotels in Downtown and Midtown will cost an average 167 percent more than regular rates, according to AtlantaHotels.org, a booking website.
Accommodations will start at around $300 a night at most hotels, although cheaper rooms for around $200 are available farther north in Buckhead and rooms for less than $100 are available beyond the Perimeter, I-285.
