Fishing enthusiasts in San Diego don't need to tell tall tales lately as the bass and trout being supplied to the county's waterways are massive, relatively speaking to previous years. Hopefully this doesn't spoil fishers, who might have to deal with significantly smaller fish in future fishing seasons. In any case, this is a golden opportunity to grab a rod, a license, some worms and go cast your line to catch a big one.
Ron Bright said it was a phone call request from City of Escondido lakes supervisor Tony Smock that inspired him to deliver bigger trout to Lake Wohlford.
“Tony said Lake Wohlford hadn’t been getting as big a trout as they were getting at Dixon and some other lakes in Southern California and wondered if I could do something about it,” said Bright, who, along with his wife, Linda, runs the Chaulk Mound Trout Ranch in Bridgeport, Neb., about 1,250 miles from San Diego. “I took care of it.”
He sure did. The result has been some giant trout, not only at Dixon and Poway in recent weeks, but now at Wohlford, where San Diego County’s biggest trout of the season was weighed in Sunday.
