Paris has long been the perfume capital of the world – though a few places in Brazil are trying very hard to give them a run for their money – and it's only fitting that the Mandarin Oriental, a fascinating and highly exotic perfume dedicated hotel, take residents in the City of Lights.
Impeccably-dressed women clip clop along the marble floor in designer heels. Swarovski crystals twinkle from the ceiling. And macarons - their crisp shells in rainbow sugary shades - greet me at every turn. Welcome to the Mandarin Oriental, in Paris' buzzy shopping district.
Everything behind the hotel's Art Deco facade is done to perfection. From the gleaming glass-walled lobby to the vivid orange and pink Asian flowers that bloom on every surface and the Warhol paintings hanging on the walls (yes, they’re real).
Were Anna Wintour herself to stride through the front door, not a croissant would be out of place.
