As Spain’s premier 20th century art museum, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia was named after the Queen Sofia of Spain. Within its walls, there is an extremely impressive collection of artwork from world-famous artists. One of the fathers of cubism, Pablo Picasso, has an extensive collection of works in the Museo Reina Sofia, with the highlight being the impactful Guernica. Likewise, the master of surrealist art Salvador Dali also has a remarkable collection for visitors to get lost in, psychologically of course. Other notable artists on display include Richard Serra, Damien Hirst, Pablo Gargallo, Juan Gris, Eduard Chillida and many more.
Days could easily be spent browsing this art museum and would be well worth it for the inspiration alone. And, for those that just can’t get enough art in their lives, the museum is also home to a library that specializes in the topic. It contains more than 100,000 books and over 4,500 pieces of audio and visual media.
