Ted Jackson/Times Picayune Although beaten out by a few other big-name cities in the United States like San Francisco, Chicago and New York City, New Orleans still ranked extremely well in a user poll as far as the best cities in the United States are concerned. Likewise, a number of hotels in New Orleans made a Top 40 Hotels in the South list.
New Orleans was named one of the Top 10 Cities in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler, making the cut "for the first time in ages," the magazine announced Wednesday.
The Crescent City ranked No. 8 on the list, after receiving an overall rating of 78.4 percent by readers who were asked to rate six aspects of each city, including ambiance, friendliness, dining options and shopping.
Not surprisingly, the city's greatest strength came from its restaurants, which got a 90.9 percent approval rating. Shopping came in last, with 54.9 percent.
