Project Paz, a noble effort to change the image of New York to one of art and fashion rather than violence, has raised an impressive $15,500 going straight towards after-school activities and tutoring, an effort that will not only change the present face of New York, but bring with it a brighter future.
An informal chat three years ago among a group of young Juarenses living in New York on how to help their hometown, which was being devastated by violence, has transformed into an art and fashion event in the Big Apple that raises money to promote peace in Juárez.
On Monday, the event Project Art raised $15,500 that will go toward financing a program that offers after-school activities such as dance, karate and tutoring to poor children in Juárez, organizers said.
The amount is expected to increase by the end of December because of cash donations by people who did not attend the fundraiser and the sales of T-shirts designed by Michael Bastian, a menswear fashion designer, organizers said.
