Charlotte is overcome by a new liquor law, which now allows there to be packaged liquor within the store limits. The vote was passed last Tuesday and it passed with flying colors as it was a unanimous vote. This new law was passed in hopes that the city will increase tax revenue.
After a public hearing Tuesday during which there were no objections, the Charlotte Town Council voted unanimously to allow packaged liquor stores within the town limits. Applicants can apply immediately.
Last month, the town council approved new regulations for the retail liquors stores on the first of two required readings. Tuesday night’s vote marked the second and final reading.
Town residents voted to allow liquor stores within the city limits during last November’s election in hopes of adding tax revenue. The town, according to council, will ready to begin handing out applications on Wednesday.
