 J. Zapata The 19th annual Philadelphia Marathon is set to launch on Saturday with the full expectation of nearly 30,000 runners to participate. The family oriented two day celebration is due to feature the Kids Fun Run, a half marathon, the Rothman Institute 8K and a full marathon. The much anticipated event will strain the city's streets, but residents look forward to the event with eager anticipation.
The city of Philadelphia is already preparing for this weekends main event: the 19th annual Philadelphia Marathon. Beginning Saturday, November 17 and spanning well into Sunday, November 18, four events will take over the streets of Philadelphia: the Kids Fun Run, the Rothman Institute 8K, the Philadelphia Half Marathon, and the Philadelphia Marathon.
This years event is expected to draw 30,000 runners and more than 50,000 spectators. Both the Kids Fun Run - "a short-distance, non-competitive event for kids aged 6-14, [which] focuses on the cathartic and enjoyable sport of running" - and the Rothman Institute 8K will be held on Saturday, while the Philadelphia Half Marathon and full marathon will kick off on Sunday.
