 ABC15 A police shooting made headlines in Scottsdale, Arizona when a suspected drunk driver was shot during what had begun as a routine stop. Most curious about the case, however, is the fact that the police didn't do the shooting: the man inadvertently shot himself when fumbling with a pistol. More interesting is the fact that neither he nor the driver was actually drunk.
A man was taken to the hospital early Saturday after he accidentally shot himself during a traffic stop in Scottsdale.
Lt. Kempshner of Scottsdale police said Mesa officers conducting a DUI task force near Main and Scottsdale roads initially pulled the driver of a truck over for suspected impaired driving.
As they approached the vehicle, officers saw the passenger fumbling with something near his feet and seconds later a gun went off.
