Michael Macor/The Chronicle/SF Falling short for its Thanksgiving day objective by at least a 1,000 fresh birds, the San Francisco Food Bank has issued a call for public aide, aiming to distribute over 3,000 turkeys to various charities and agencies dedicated to helping the needy. The Food Bank still hopes to meet its goal, despite the narrow margin of time it has to receive and distribute the birds.
The San Francisco Food Bank received almost 700 Thanksgiving turkeys over the weekend in response to its appeal for help, but the organization needs 1,000 more to meet the holiday demand, officials said Monday.
The Food Bank hopes to give 3,300 turkeys to 202 San Francisco and Marin County agencies that provide holiday meals to the needy. With just a few days left until Thanksgiving, the Food Bank still needs about 1,000 birds, said spokeswoman Blain Johnson.
