The damage from Hurricane Sandy is still being assessed and one of Atlantic City's historic restaurants has taken more damage than can be repaired safely. Scales Grill & Deck Bar was built during World War II and has been a favorite dining and drinking location for many. Here's hoping the owners get enough insurance to rebuild.
GARDNER'S BASIN — A restaurant in historic Gardner's Basin in Atlantic City that suffered severe damage during Hurricane Sandy will be torn down next month, according to a report.
The Press of Atlantic City reported that the storm caused structural damage to the foundation of the building that houses the Scales Grill & Deck Bar, which was formerly called the Flying Cloud Cafe. So the building is a total loss, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The building's history dates back to World War II, according to Jack Keith, the executive director of the nonprofit that runs Gardner's Basin.
