The Bitter yet Better End

Luxury Hotels: When Christopher Columbus first set his eyes on Virgin Gorda, he was reminded of a corpulent woman reclining languorously on her back. On this third largest island of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), is the verdant jewel called Bitter End. Situated on North Sound, Bitter End stands tall like a beautiful, protected maiden, away from the prying eyes of strangers. From here you get a vast panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and the golden sand of the endlessly stretchable beaches opulent with coral reefs and spectacular marine life.

Bitter End's striking silhouette has a considerable advantage with its well-manicured lawns, plush restaurants, and lovely cottages, not to mention abundant foliage. Walking along the beach you will get to see grunts, parrotfish, damselfish, as well as multi-colored corals and sponges. The trade winds blowing in keep this festooned resort cool and salubrious.

Not surprisingly, the resort is also the site of water sporting activities like snorkeling, sailing, and swimming. You can indulge in your favorite water sport or walk barefoot in the park, almost literally.

The cottages are villa-like, each uniquely designed. All the cottages are replete with a king-sized bed or two twin beds, a dressing area that is sizeable, a coffee-maker, refrigerator, ceiling fan, air-conditioners, television set, etc. The porch surrounding the cottages has a double-sized hammock where you can stretch out and savor the breeze blowing in from the Atlantic.

But if you want seclusion and quiet while soaking in the luxury of nature as well as material comfort, you would probably be better off with one of the 20 suites that are spread out all over Bitter End with stunning vistas.

For romantic getaways choose Bitter End every time. Whether you are looking for Champagne and an in-house photographer, luxurious spas, or with some adventure thrown in, there is a package designed specially for you.

The cuisine is not bereft of the Bitter End elegance either. Special Theme Dinners like the West Indian night or the Seafood Night are the life and soul of Bitter End parties held at the rather exotic Almond Walk.

On other days, feast on home-made pastries, pancakes, and Belgian waffles at the Clubhouse Steak and Seafood Grille.

There's more, much more, to Bitter End. How about finding out for yourself? You cannot catch a flight to Virgin Gorda. We recommend that you fly down to nearby Tortola and book a ferry to this gem of a paradise.
