 Hotels: "Benjamin Franklin meets a supermodel" is how the ultra-chic Morgans Hotel Group describes its newest property, the Ames in central Boston, which is slated to open by November.
Renowned for introducing the boutique hotel with the opening of Morgans in Manhattan in 1984, Ames represents a singular and authentic addition to Morgans' collection of Originals: a carefully curated group of hotels, which also includes the Royalton, Hudson, St. Martins Lane, Clift, and Shore Club.
The 113-room hotel offers 95 guest rooms, one apartment and six deluxe one-bedroom suites as well as the Woodward, a luxe new restaurant-bar concept.
Ames, designed by Rockwell Group in collaboration with the Morgans' design team, is a rich blend of "historical ingenuity and innovative and awe-inspiring modernism," as well as a mix of historical reference and up-to-date modernism, of old-world aesthetics and contemporary luxury, and of dedicated homage to history and forward-thinking innovation.
The original 19th-century Romanesque building operated as the headquarters for the Ames tool company, a history the design team have adopted and interpreted through an entirely modern lens. Stunning original fixtures such as the staircase, lobby mosaic, and robust exterior were preserved while other aspects of the aesthetic were selectively streamlined.
