A highly anticipated new luxury hotel has opened its doors in London, offering a unique and edgy design in the heart of the capital's entertainment epicenter.
W London–the flagship hotel of W Hotels Worldwide–stands 10 stories tall and is veiled in translucent glass that changes color according to the time of day or the ambience of the area.
Featuring 192 rooms, including 17 suites, three WOW suites and one Extreme WOW suite, the opening marks a milestone in the company's global expansion.
Situated on the corner of Leicester Square and Wardour Street–a thriving area full of trendy bars and renowned restaurants–the building sports a modern yet plush decor inside. The designers aimed for a 'Savile Row meets Soho' concept, with an interior to specifically suit the contemporary business and leisure traveler.
W London also features the signature W Lounge offering cocktails and bites with a twist on traditional English favorites. It boasts open fires and double-depth modern Chesterfield sofas–traditional classics reworked with a modern touch.
For those wanting a more lively evening, there's Wyld bar with music and drinks inspired by rock 'n roll featuring a specially curated premium tequila selection. And there's a state-of-the-art fitness center, offering rooftop views of Soho and beyond.
Guests can also relax at the Away Spa, with a focus on detox and refuel. "We are thrilled to launch the W brand in the UK with the opening of W London," said Roeland Vos, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East.
"After opening W hotels in Istanbul, Doha and Barcelona, the brand is on track to more than double its footprint over the next three years with further new hotels in prime destinations such as St. Petersburg, Paris and Milan."
An exciting and welcome addition to the property is the premiered Spice Market London, by internationally renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and culinary concepts by Jean-Georges.
The South East Asian-inspired restaurant is the sister venue of the iconic Spice Market in New York's Meat Packing District and has been one of the most eagerly anticipated opening of 2011. Jean-Georges has created a menu featuring exotic curries and spices. They are expertly executed by Tolley to create bold and tantalising dishes, promising to enchant diners with delectable and adventurous flavors.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to London and opening Spice Market in the heart of London, Leicester Square," said Jean-Georges. "London is such a diverse and vibrant city that I think it will be the perfect place for the European flagship Spice Market."
Set over two floors, warming shades of gold, copper, chrome and wood are used throughout Spice Market and the windows are discreetly screened with gold mesh.
Low slung black leather banquettes encircle the rooms and diners will be seated at intimate booths.
Other notable design features include a stunning 'birdcage' gold spiral staircase and 600 custom-designed shimmering wok lamps, which cover almost every part of the ceiling giving out an attractive low light.
