It was the last of the red carpets as the projectors wound down and the 30th edition of the Miami International Film Festival came to a celebratory close on Saturday evening. Filmmakers, media, actors and cinema fans came together for some well-deserved partying at the Pyrat Awards Party. The packed event was held at the famously-lit National Historic Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College in downtown Miami. This year, the Miami International Film festival revealed 138 carefully selected films hailing from 41 different countries. The array of films were presented in various venues around the city of Miami, and as expected, all screenings were at full capacity.
The Pyrat Awards Party was the place to be, properly paying homage to the art of film and the impact it has had on the city of Miami. Winners accepted their honors with both grace and joy in front of a tightly-gathered crowd; however, once the awards were carefully tucked away, the real celebration began! The classically decorated venue was also at full capacity but didn’t stop guests from dancing and enjoying the tasty appetizers and liquid delights served late into the night.
So Much Water (Tanta Agua), produced by Uruguay-based company, CTRL Z FILMS and directed by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge, was awarded the coveted Knight Grand Jury Prize. Other notable accolades included the Grand Jury Best Performance, given to The cast of A Gun in Each Hand (Una Pistola En Cada Mano), by Cèsc Gay (Spain) and Grand Jury Best Director, bestowed upon Ana Piterbarg of Everybody Has a Plan (Todos Tenemos Un Plan) (Spain/Argentina /Germany).
