The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is one of New York's most moving monuments, as it represented the first glimpse of America for the millions of people who immigrated to the New World from Europe. The statue was a gift from France in 1886 to commemorate our independence.

Today, visitors can take a ferry ride across the Upper New York Bay to Ellis Island, upon which the statue stands. Make a reservation well in advance if you wish to make the climb to the top of the statue, as it is one of the most visited places in New York.
