Ink Block Redefines Luxury Living in Million-Dollar South End Community

If you’re familiar with the old Boston Herald headquarters, you may not immediately think of the area as prime real estate for luxury condos (since the tallest unit only sits eight floors high). But instead of placing their million-dollar residences inside a downtown high-rise, developers of Ink Block (which opened this week), decided to take the idea of luxury living down a notch, literally.

Built in the South End, the so-called maisonettes (French for little houses) are split between three buildings (six planned in total) and range in size from 600-1,200 square feet. The idea was to create a space that had a luxury feeling within a hip, street-level atmosphere.

The glass houses feature 14- to 16-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, wool carpeting in bedrooms, stainless steel Jenn-Air appliances, European-style flat panel kitchen cabinetry, raised-panel walnut bathroom cabinetry, French door refrigerators and Bosch stackable washers/dryers.

“It will have an active street life with a brand new flagship Whole Foods market and places to eat and shop along the wide sidewalks of a re-imagined Harrison avenue,” reads Ink Block’s site. “1 ink, 2 ink and 3 ink will offer completely unique choices in layouts, materials, colors and finishes.”

Residents will also get exclusive use of the block’s amenities such as concierge services, a bike station, rooftop pool, fitness center, sun deck, dog-washing station, car detailing service and a first-floor lounge. Condos are priced between $500,000 and $2 million per unit.
