Things To See in New York

Things To See in New York: For those looking for excitement, around-the-clock entertainment, and a hefty dose of culture, there is no better place to visit than the urban streets of New York City. Each year, thousands of starry-eyed visitors make their way to the city that never sleeps, and while each may have his or her own agenda, each bring with them a set of high expectations. With more things to see and do than one could possibly count, it’s not uncommon for visitors to find themselves a bit lost, which is why we have put together a list of some of our favorite things to do in New York.

Empire State Building
Standing 436 feet above the ground, the Empire State Building has been an enduring symbol of New York since it was built back in 1931. Built from the ground up in just 410 days, this massive skyscraper proves to be one of the most impressive engineering feats of all time. From the observation decks on the 86th and 102nd floors, visitors can get a bird’s eye view of the vibrant city.

Central Park
Located in central Manhattan, the world-famous Central Park is among one of the city’s most frequented landmarks. The 840-acre park serves as a welcoming respite amidst what otherwise might be known as a “concrete jungle.” On any given day, tourists and locals alike flood the park, joining the swarms of joggers, bikers and skaters, as well as those simply enjoying a leisurely stroll or mid-day picnic.

Rockefeller Centre
Named for the world’s first billionaire, John D. Rockefeller, the Rockefeller Centre is home to several of New York City’s most popular attractions. On the grounds is Radio City, which not only serves as one of the city’s finest concert venues, but has also played host to a variety of award shows, including the Grammies, the Emmies and the MTV Music Awards. Also on site is the GE Building, the Rockefeller Ice Rink, and the Concourse, an underground pedestrian mall.

Time Square
When one thinks of New York City, the image of flashing lights, evocative advertisements and larger-than-life billboards is often what first comes to mind. Located at the corner of Broadway and 42nd Street, Times Square is undeniably one of the world’s most famous intersections. Each New Year’s Eve, thousands of partygoers gather in the square to catch a glimpse of the infamous ball-dropping ceremony.

Broadway
Any trip to New York City just isn’t complete without enjoying a night at the theatre. Broadway shows take performance art to a whole new level, featuring some of the world’s very best talent. The highly-sought after tickets to certain Broadway shows, such as The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, and A Chorus Line, have been in such high demand, that they end up running for years on end.

While these five local landmarks should help you get started, don’t forget to check out the many other exciting things to do in New York.
