Philadelphia Culture: The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is at once a museum and a school. The educational institution offers certificates and degrees for artists, while the museum offers those with a more fleeting interest an opportunity to indulge in the fine arts.

Around town you can simply refer to the academy as PAFA, and this museum hosts various collections of 19th- and 20th-century American paintings, sculptures and literary work. Located in a historic landmark building, PAFA was awarded the National Medal for the Arts during their 2005 bicentennial.
