The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is both a museum and a school. The educational institution offers certificates and degrees for artists, while the museum offers those with a more fleeting interest an opportunity to indulge in the fine arts.
Around town you can simply refer to the academy as PAFA, and this museum hosts various collections of 19th and 20th century American paintings, sculptures and literary work. Located in a historic landmark building, PAFA was awarded the National Medal for the Arts during their 2005 bicentennial.
