Located in downtown San Diego, The Westgate Hotel is an elegant city fixture, situated within walking distance of the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Opera and the Symphony. Aiming to mirror the design of the Palace of Versailles, the hotel features Flemish and French tapestries, Persian carpets, and Baccarat crystal chandeliers. In line with the artistry of The Westgate, the hotel is presenting "The Artful Spirit Lecture Series" with Contemporary Impressionist artist, Concetta Antico. The lecture will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2:30 to 5:00 pm inside the hotel’s Grand Lobby.
The series is a special addition to the Westgate’s afternoon tea offering. It's focus will be primarily on the development of personal creativity and what creativity means to each individual. Antico will lead the event, teaching guests how to foster their inner artist. “Creativity is not limited to one’s ability to produce a piece of art, a sculpture or an image on a canvas” Antico says, “The most powerful position you can obtain in life is prevailing as your own unique and wondrous muse.” Antico is a native to Australia, but has been working in the art community of San Diego for the past twenty years. She teaches oil painting through her Salon of Art Studio and is known for the intense use of color values within her own work.
While Antico teaches the techniques and habits of creative individuals, guests can enjoy a variety of bites from the Westgate’s afternoon tea menu. Options may include Gravlax Cornet with Lemon & Dill Cream Cheese, Black Tiger Shrimp & Cucumber with Cilantro Cream, Quail Egg and Domestic Caviar on Blinis and sweets such as Golden Raisin & Sugar Cane Scone with Devonshire Cream or Summer Berries & Vanilla Whipped Cream. Guests can enjoy the option of an assorted plate of sandwiches accompanied by a cup of tea or a glass of champagne. Tickets will cost $39 a person, non-inclusive of tax or gratuity. A portion of the proceeds will support Rady Children’s Hospital.
