Spas & Resorts: The Kinan Spa at the Maroma Resort and Spa in the Mexican Riviera is like no other spa experience you will ever have.

Kinan is a Mayan word that refers to the healing energy of the sun and also the energy of the individual. In the Kinan Spa, spa treatments are designed to help you unlock your energy and restore and rejuvenate your body.

At the Kinan Spa, part of the experience is in the environment. Which is why they offer spa treatments in every kind of environment from ultimate luxury couple suites to open-air massage palapas. You can also do yoga on the spa's roof and gaze upon 360-degree views as you do so.

The 7000 square foot Kinan Spa is a design based on Mayan Sacred Geometry, the principles of astrological alignment, ratios and energy channels that give the Kinan Spa its energy, reflected in every part of the spa buildings.

The same family of Mayan stonemasons has been handcrafting the stones used to build the spa's buildings. Each building, treatment room and waterfall is aligned with the stars. This ensures a positive energy flow so that the body, mind and spirit are in harmony. Treatment rooms point directly east to west, representing the balance of the day and night. Massage beds are placed so that when lying on the table, the head is at the west looking towards the east, representing new beginnings and the relaxation room is pointing north, which represents the earth and grounding.

Not only the structures are designed in keeping with Mayan traditions. Many of the massage techniques and spa treatments are based on Mayan rituals and healing practices and can't be found anywhere else in the world.

Before your treatment, you are instructed to arrive 15 minutes before your pre-arranged appointment, wearing both your kaftan and bathing suit, so that you can relax and enjoy a Steam, Sauna or the Plunge pool area before your treatment.

Outside of the Spa area, you can dine at the Spa Restaurant, Cilantro, which provides healthy meals for breakfast and lunch.

You can also shop at the Spa Boutique or spend time in the Wellness Center, even making an appointment with a personal trainer if you choose.

Special features of the Kinan Spa include:

- A spa tower that provides 360-views of both the jungle and sea
- The Flower of Life Pool complete with a sacred Flower of Life symbol, which is a metaphor of both the ancient and modern world for the connectedness of all life and spirit within the universe
- Jantzu garden pool
- Rooftop yoga platform and pavilion

With all the attention to detail and technique, your experience at the Maroma Resort and Spa is sure to be not only unique, but memorable as well.
