Luxury Day Spas: Spa Lux is a new business that is off to a great start. The one-year-old luxury day spa in Tulsa, Okla., was named among the Top 25 American Hot Spots by Travel + Leisure magazine. The commendation is the second such achievement award it has received, as DaySpa Magazine also recognized the spa and made it the recipient of its Excellence in Design award.
The largest luxury day spa in Tulsa welcomes men and women with targeted treatments for each. Its full-services menu includes aromatherapies, hydrotherapies, manicures, pedicures, facials and waxing. Holistic treatments are house specialties and used to enable healing and rejuvenation to a client’s entire being. Spa Lux is the only spa statewide to offer products by Sundri, an upscale line of products made 100 percent from organic ingredients.
Spa Lux owners Taras and Cynthia Tikhomirov set out to design a spa that serves as an escape from the everyday mundane. In search of inspiration in remote destinations, they visited luxurious spas in Moscow, London and New York to formulate their strategy to open a spa on parity with the world’s best. Spa Lux’s décor is splendid inside and out, with its handmade shoji doors, white marble steam rooms, and a hydrotherapy capsule.
"A lot of the energy and unique ideas were imagined by Cynthia herself. She is the real inspiration behind the idea of Spa Lux," said co-owner Taras Tikhomirov.
Obviously, the efforts the Tikhomirovs’ put into gathering research and developing their luxury day spa was time well spent. While Spa Lux is a burgeoning success story in Tulsa, its appeal also is drawing visitors from beyond the borders of Oklahoma.
What makes all this so intriguing is that the one-year old award-winning spa is located beside a well-know sandwich shop in a strip mall south of the city. Sometimes “luxe” just happens—and it is not always predictable where or when. However, I am sure that the Tikhomirovs could tell you, in great detail, how and why it happened. They did it earnestly.
