Luxury Travel: What could very well be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and what is said to be the only man-made object visible from the moon, the Great Wall in China is a magnificent structure with a fascinating history. It is also the meeting ground for thousands of people from around the world who gather yearly with one goal in mind: to run a marathon on this ancient jagged wall.

Held in Huangyaguan on China's Tianjin Province, this annual May event is considered to be one of the toughest and most picturesque marathons in the world. Only a 3-hour drive from Beijing, it consists of a 6km run on the Great Wall with over 3,700 steps to conquer. The course, with its many steep ascents, descents and very narrow passage ways, also takes racers through a flat and scenic landscape consisting of farmland and tiny villages. Few places on earth can offer such a captivating display of history, culture, and architectural wonders all in one setting.

If you're interested in taking on the challenge, all you need to do is come prepared for a distinct test of your running ability - with the knowledge that it's probably not the race to conquer a personal record. Entrance to the race is coupled with incredible tour packages containing exclusive seven to seventeen-day itineraries, and are arranged by elite tour operators so that you don't have to worry about a single detail. Hey, if you're going to travel that far, you've got to experience Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Hong Kong and a cruise on the Yangtze River, right?

Take on this unique adventure of a lifetime, and the opportunity to test your self physically and mentally in a world so far away. If you're not a racer, feel free to wander off on your own any time of the year to experience the mysticism and magnificence of both ancient and contemporary China.
