Where to Shop in Athens

Posted: Aug. 22nd, 2012  |  By Michael Pearse

While Athens has its fair share of malls filled with name brand merchandise and high-end retail products, the real charm of this Greek city’s shopping comes from the numerous flea-markets and locally-owned stores.

Of the flea market variety shopping locations in Athens, the more visited, and thereby offering a wider range of unique products, are Monastiraki, Central Market and Avysinias Square. They are the kind of flea markets that Greece is known for and are considered the “real” face of Athenian shopping.

Likewise, shops like Stravos Melissinos’ Art Shop, Olive Tree and Protasis Jewelry provide guests with high quality handmade products that are, quite literally, only available in their respective stores, which solidifies their positions as must-shop locations for anyone visiting Athens.
