Not only is the Super Bowl one of the most-watched annual events in the world, but whatever city gets chosen to host the big game sees a massive tourism (and thereby revenue) boost that's nearly incomparable in the United States. This being the case, Houston is trying to nab the 2017 Houston, which will, then, make 12 years since it was last held there.

Houston will compete against either San Francisco or South Florida for Super Bowl LI in 2017.
South Florida and San Francisco are competing for Super Bowl L in 2016.
Owners will vote in May 2013 on the host of Super Bowl LI from between Houston and the runner-up from the Super Bowl L vote.
Houston last hosted the Super Bowl in 2004 when the New England Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29.
